Technology of Restylane®
A facial filler or injectable treatment entails a series of tiny injections under the skin’s surface – at the subdermal-dermal levels. The amount administered depends on the depth and size of the skin defect or wrinkle. Restylane and Perlane injections are administered in the office. It is most often performed with local anesthesia, especially if the lip is being treated. If local anesthesia is not used, patients may experience some discomfort from the needle during injection. Depending upon the extent of the treatment, the procedure can take from a few minutes up to 30 minutes. Patients return home shortly after the procedure. Recovery after Restylane and Perlane Treatment Swelling may be pronounced, lasting for two or three days. Normal activities can be resumed immediately, though patients are advised to stay out of the sun. Pain, as well as symptoms that are progressive or abnormal, should be reported to the office immediately. Restylane treatments reduce wrinkles by about 80 percent. Restylane is a temporary solution and follow-up treatments will be needed. Restylane Side Effects of Restylane and Perlane Side effects with Restylane and Perlane include but are not limited to: brusing, tenderness, or pain at the injection site. If these occur, they usually subside within three days. Rarely, discoloration may occur, but this is reversible. Firmness, swelling, bumps, and bruises are also side effects, which should subside within seven days. Sever allergic reaction are extremely rare but possible. Juvéderm® The injectable gel filler is available in three formulas: - Juvéderm® : a fluid gel targeting the superficial (upper) dermis for fine lines such as crow's feet.
- Juvéderm® Ultra: a denser gel targeting the mid-dermis for moderate lines such as forehead winkles.
- Juvéderm® Ultra Plus: the most dense gel, targeting the deep dermis for deep naso-genian grooves (the folds between your cheeks and nose) and nasolabial folds, for enhancing lip volume, and for reshaping cheek contours.
A Juvederm advantage is its pliant gel consistency, which may provide a smoother, more natural-looking appearance than some of its more rigid fillers. Another advantage is that Juvederm may last longer, maintaining the improved appearance for six to twelve months. Procedure The transparent Juvederm gel is injected, utilizing a tiny needle, into the mid- to deep dermis of the face. The dermis is the subsurface skin layer that contains connective tissue, nerve endings, sweat and oil glands, and blood vessels. The Juvederm improves your appearance by lifting and adding volume to the folds in the treatment area. Radiesse® is a next-generation cosmetic filler used in the treatment of deep lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth – including smile lines, marionette lines, and nasolabial folds. Radiesse® cosmetic filler has small microspheres (particles) suspended in a gel-like solution. There is no need for an allergy test prior to Radiesse® filler injections since the microspheres are comprised of calcium hydroxylapatite, a substance naturally found in the body.
For the first three months after the Radiesse® injection, it acts as a regular filler, plumping up the skin and diminishing age lines. After two to three months, macrophages start to dissolve the sodium carboxymethylcellulose gel carrier. Then, the calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres stimulate the body’s natural collagen growth. This collagen production bolsters new tissue development, under the lines or deficits, which can last for a year or longer. In addition, Radiesse® is useful in the treatment of: Malar/submalar enhancement, Chin reshaping and contouring, Jaw line enhancement and facial lipoatrophy. Procedure The Radiesse® treatment is a office procedure, injected utilizing a tiny needle, into the deep dermis of the face, generally performed using a local anesthetic. Treatment time takes up to 30 minutes, depending upon the extent of the treatment. The doctor selects one or more injection points for each location to be treated. Local anesthesia and an antiseptic are applied. The Radiesse™ cosmetic filler is then injected beneath the skin, under the dermis and subcutis layer. Although patients should see immediate results, the final product is evident within one week. The results are temporary and can last from 9 months to a year or longer Recovery Treatment There may be minimal swelling, which usually subsides in 24 to 36 hours. There may also be some discomfort and bruising. The discomfort can be managed with medications. Normal activities can be resumed immediately; however, patients are advised to stay out of the sun.
